How to Apply Sika® Flex Construction Sealant

1. Surface Preparation

Ensure the joint surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, grease, or loose particles.
For very smooth or porous surfaces, use a Sika Primer recommended for the substrate.
The joint must be designed to allow for the expected movement and proper sealant thickness.

2. Masking

Apply masking tape on both sides of the joint to achieve clean edges and prevent smearing.

3. Backer Rod Installation

For deep joints, insert a backer rod (polyethylene foam rod) to control sealant depth and avoid three-sided adhesion.

4. Application

Cut the nozzle to the required joint width.
Insert the cartridge into a standard sealant gun.
Apply Sika® Flex Construction evenly into the joint, ensuring full contact with both sides.
Avoid trapping air pockets.

5. Finishing

Smooth the sealant surface with a spatula or soapy solution within the skinning time for a neat finish.
Remove masking tape immediately after finishing.

6. Curing

Allow to cure completely before exposing to water or mechanical stress (typically 24–48 hours depending on temperature and humidity).
